A medical writer is a professional who specialises in creating written content related to medicine, healthcare and pharmaceuticals in various formats for different audiences. There are many types of medical writers: Regulatory writers specialise in writing clinical study reports and other documents necessary for drug approvals MedEd writers tend to write non-branded materials for HCPs such as conference slide decks and advisory board reports Publication writers write abstracts, manuscripts and clinical papers MedComms writers create a wide range of materials including websites, digital sales aids, emails, videos and apps Conceptual writers work on the more creative side, often generating ideas and stories for a new campaign Blog writers create SEO posts on different topics usually for patients As a freelance medical writer, most of my work is in medical education and medical communications, but I also do some publications, conceptual work and blog writing.
  • Why should I hire a freelancer?
Hiring a freelance medical writer can offer several benefits, including: Expertise and Specialisation - Freelance medical writers often have extensive knowledge and experience in specific therapeutic areas or medical fields, allowing them to deliver high-quality, accurate, and well-researched content. - They stay up-to-date with the latest developments, regulations, and guidelines in the MedComms industry. Cost-effectiveness - Hiring a freelancer eliminates the need for full-time employees, reducing overhead costs such as employee benefits, office space, and equipment. - Companies can save on training and onboarding expenses by hiring experienced freelance writers. Flexibility and Scalability - Freelance writers can be engaged on a project-by-project basis, allowing companies to scale their writing needs up or down as required. - This flexibility helps organisations manage workloads more efficiently and respond quickly to changing demands. Fresh Perspectives - Freelance writers can bring new ideas, approaches, and perspectives to projects, which can be particularly valuable for agencies seeking innovative solutions or fresh insights.
